Size Doesn't Matter

Uncategorized Aug 30, 2019

I know, I know ... not the most appropriate tittle considering the dialogue that usually takes place around the words "size doesn't matter." But, hey - I'm here to tell you that the size inside your clothes doesn't and shouldn't matter.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. About a month ago, I went shopping, not for clothes but happen to walk out of that store with two pairs of shorts. Going to the dressing room was not ideal at the time so I grabbed two different styles. One style looked bigger than the others, so I grabbed two different sizes that I thought would fit me and I went home.

If you've been with me here for a little while, you know that I've been focusing on not using numbers to define my success. I don't weigh myself or my food and I don't measure it anymore either. I don't count calories or macros and I'm no longer on a set schedule for timed workouts. This is my way of removing numbers from controlling me.

I must note that the two pairs of shorts were made my the same company, just different styles. One was a high rise and the other mid-rise.  When I got home, I tried them on.

I grabbed one pair and my immediate reaction was "ooooh, these are tight, got the muffin top spilling over, can't breathe totally uncomfortable." Thinking to myself that these must be the size four.

So I go back to my bag to grab the other pair and to my surprise, the pair in the bag were the size four! Again, I started to prep myself that if the six didn't fit me, why would the four but I tried them on anyway.

I need you to recognize my disordered way of thinking. We should not define our body's worth based on a size. WE ARE ALL WORTHY NO MATTER OUR SIZE!!

And to my surprise, the four fit me!

This is why people are F'd up when it comes to allowing size of clothing and numbers on the scale to be our success indicators. We become so focused with numbers that we let it define whether we're good enough, if we're pretty enough, if we're thin enough, if we're um, desirable enough and it's time that we lose that mindset and start exposing these things.

To me it didn't matter which one, which size fit me ... what mattered was that I found a pair of shorts that were comfortable for me. However, this was not always the case. In previous years I would've been torn up when a certain size didn't fit or elated when a smaller size did fit.

Did I have to look the size? Yes. So that I could figure out around what size was going to fit me and the four fit me, but the six didn't. Now if I just grabbed the six and didn't buy the four, I would say, oh my God I thought by now I'd be fitting into a size six!

In my old mindset, I would have been all screwed up from it and been like, well now I've got to stop eating so many carbs and exercise more, drink more water, etc. I need to lose weight because if I fit into a six before then I can get back into a six.

So my message to you is, dear friend, if you are so set on numbers, whether it's you getting on the scale and it's up or down and it either makes your day or ruins your day, I'm asking you to try not to weigh yourself.

If you're obsessed over fitting into a size small shirt or a particular size number pants, please don't beat yourself up up over this stuff because different brands size differently.

These numbers are not your definers.

You are so much more than a number. You're so much more than the counting, the number of calories you get to eat. You're so much more than the amount of times you exercise in a week. You're so much more than what the scale says when you stand on it. You're so much more than the size on your shirt when you buy clothes.

I am sending you love and always cheering you on because you're beautiful as you are today. You don't need to be more than you are today.

You are enough.

You're pretty enough.

You're smart enough, you're successful enough.

You are thin enough.

You are beautiful enough, desirable enough, rich enough, and you don't have to be financially rich to be rich. That's my message to you guys today. I love ya. Stay strong and ditch the numbers.
